Vestvolden
Today, the West Rampart stretches 14.2 kilometers through the municipalities of Copenhagen, Rødovre, Brøndby, and Hvidovre to the salt marshes in Avedøre. The entire rampart is now protected as a conservation area for its historical value as well as its biodiversity and environmental values and it functions as integrated part of Greater Copenhagen’s recreational and green spaces.
On the Historic Rampart around the Artillery Magazine in Rødovre the vegetation is trimmed and the buildings on this section of the rampart have been beautifully renovated. This makes the area ideal for you to explore on your own to get a sense of how the West Rampart looked when it was in active use as fortification.
